Become a wildcat behaviour data volunteer

Saving Wildcats is looking for a new volunteer to assist the ex-situ conservation (wildcat captive management) team with the classification and handling of video data obtained from CCTV footage of individual animals in the UK’s first dedicated conservation breeding for release centre (CBRC) for wildcats.

Working mostly in the CCTV operations room, training will be provided for using the extensive CCTV system in addition to behavioural monitoring protocols. Additional tasks can include, but not limited to, food preparation, enclosure maintenance, enrichment building and vehicle maintenance. 

The position is based in the Saving Wildcats office, at Highland Wildlife Park in Kincraig. We would like the candidate to start on Monday 14 September and commit a minimum of three months. However, alternative availability may be accommodated. Please outline your availability in your application.

Volunteering will give you the opportunity to contribute directly towards conservation efforts for the critically endangered wildcat in Scotland. You will gain direct practical experience of CCTV use, species specific behaviour monitoring and develop an understanding of the daily activities carried at the CBRC.

Successful candidates will have a strong interest in Scottish Wildcat recovery and conservation and a desire to learn about the challenges involved in species translocation along with being confident in handling large datasets and working with Excel.
